The construction of the facility will help reduce water shortages in the Mangistau region.

Until today, the field takes water from the Astrakhan-Mangyshlak conduit - this is 17 thousand cubic meters of water per day. There is not enough source due to the introduction of new industries. To resolve the issue, in September 2019, it was proposed to build a desalination plant in Karazhanbas. Thus, 17,000 cubic meters of water per day will be “freed up” for the population, since the field will produce its own water on its own.

According to the website InAktay.kz, the cost of the project amounted to 21.4 billion tenge. Most of the funds - 18.1 billion - were allocated by the investor CITIC Envirotech LTD. This amount was invested in the construction of the plant itself. Another 3.3 billion tenge was received from Karazhanbasmunai JSC. The funds were used to build the facility's external networks.

The construction of a desalination plant at the Karazhanbas field was launched in November 2019. It was planned to hand over the object at the end of December 2020, however, construction work was delayed due to the pandemic. The main technological equipment was purchased in China. The formation water processing capacity will be 42,500 cubic meters, the production of desalinated water - 17,000 cubic meters, treated water - 25,500 cubic meters per day. It is planned that the plant will serve 54 people.

Recently, members of the Management Board of Karazhanbasmunai JSC visited the construction site and got acquainted with the scope of work performed. “Following the results of the detour, the management gave a number of specific instructions on the need to complete construction and installation work as soon as possible and launch the plant by July 1 of this year,” - the press service of the company quotes the publication SK News.
