Reducing gas flaring remains one of the best short-term opportunities to contribute to climate change mitigation.

What solutions can there be instead of burning? They are diverse:

– re-injection into the reservoir;

– transportation by pipeline to international markets;

– use of gas to generate electricity

– deep and shallow processing, etc.

In the presented table, the countries marked in red have either high absolute volumes of flaring, or the intensity of burning is above average. Countries marked in blue are better at managing flaring. Russia, Iraq, Iran, the USA, Venezuela, Algeria and Nigeria dominate in terms of burned volumes. But according to the intensity of flaring, the indicators of Venezuela, Algeria, Iran, Iraq and Nigeria are especially large. Pay attention to Norway, this is the country from which you need to take an example. Especially for the implementation of energy transfer. Norway produces both oil and gas, in addition, the country is actively investing in flagship decarbonization projects on the Norwegian continental shelf.  Kazakhstan is among the countries with the best practices on incineration. However, in terms of the intensity of this process (i.e., one cubic meter of burnt gas per barrel of oil produced), we are inferior to major oil and gas producing countries such as Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Canada and Norway.
