Kazakhstan has launched major projects in the petrochemical industry with Russian PJSC Sibur and PJSC Tatneft, KazTAG reports with reference to the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bolat Akchulakov.
"At the initial stage is the implementation of the following major projects for the production of terephthalic acid and polyethylene terephthalate with a capacity of about 1 million tons/year, polyethylene with a capacity of 1.25 million tons /year and butadiene with a capacity of 186 thousand tons/year. According to the above projects, strategic partners have been identified for today in the person of PJSC Sibur and PJSC Tatneft, Akchulakov said at a government meeting on Tuesday.
According to the minister, a plant for the production of octane-boosting additives with a capacity of 57 thousand tons in Shymkent, and an installation of technical gases with a capacity of 54 million cubic meters and 34 million cubic meters of dry compressed air were introduced in the petrochemical industry in 2021.
Thus, the oil and gas chemistry in the country is represented by lubricants, polypropylene, methyl tert-butyl ether, octane-boosting additives, benzene and paraxylene, but the share of imported oil and gas chemical products, according to the minister, remains high. Therefore, in 2022 it is planned to launch a polypropylene production plant with a capacity of 500 thousand tons / year, which in the same year the plant plans to produce about 110 thousand tons of polypropylene.
