On Thursday, June 9, the head of the Ministry of Energy Bolat Akchulakov, Chairman of the Board of Samruk-Kazyna Almasadam Satkaliyev, Chairman of the Board of KazMunayGas Magzum Mirzagaliyev, Vice President for Business Development in Asia of Total Egep S.A. Antoine Gare and General Director of TotalEnergies in Kazakhstan Ahlem Friga-Noi signed an agreement on principles aimed at implementing a large-scale renewable energy project with a capacity of 1 GW, the press service reports Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The signed document is aimed at the development, financing, construction and operation of a wind power plant with a total capacity of 1 GW using an energy storage system.

A new wind power plant will be built near the village of Mirny in the Zhambyl region. The construction is planned to be carried out in stages, and the full completion of the project is expected in the period from 2024 to 2026.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the implementation of this project will allow achieving the target indicators approved by the concept of Kazakhstan's transition to a "green" economy, attracting additional investments, creating new jobs, as well as increasing the generation of "green" electricity in the republic.
