Kazakhstan is studying the possibility of implementing large-scale projects for the production of green hydrogen, reports IA Neftegaz.RU .
The Embassy of Kazakhstan in France, the Kazakh Invest national company with the support of the French Association of Entrepreneurs MEDEF and the France Hydrogène movement held a webinar to explore the prospects of cooperation between Kazakhstan and France in the field of hydrogen energy development, the Kazakh Invest press service reports. The webinar, which brought together representatives and experts of the governments of Kazakhstan and France, was designed to share the experience of French companies working in the hydrogen industry and invite them to participate in the development of the industry in Kazakhstan.
The webinar was attended by:
– Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan,
– Institute of Nuclear Physics,
– KazMunayGas,
– ERG companies,
– Total Energies,
- Air Liquide,
– Technip Energies
According to the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to France, Zh. Galiyev, this area is becoming increasingly important for Kazakhstan, given its commitment to decarbonizing the economy and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. He also stressed the importance of this dialogue, as the two countries are entering the 2nd decade of strategic partnership.
Last year, Kazakhstan and France signed a roadmap for economic and investment cooperation until 2030, where one of the priorities is the development of technological and environmental projects. Kazakhstan wants to explore the possibilities of hydrogen production and use, and this topic was raised by President K.-Zh. Tokayev in 2022. According to him, Kazakhstan has the scientific potential and qualified specialists to create an industrial cluster for the production of hydrogen energy. Foreign investors are eager to explore the hydrogen sector in Kazakhstan, said A. Kozhanov, Managing Director of the Kazakh Invest working group.
Theses of the top manager:
– Today, the country is studying the possibility of implementing large-scale projects for the production of green hydrogen.
– Foreign investors are ready to study 5 regions of Kazakhstan for the economic feasibility of implementing large projects.
– Probably, we are now experiencing the last 10 years of high oil prices and are determined to fit into the new global supply chains of the fuel and energy industry.
– There is a possibility of exporting hydrogen produced in Kazakhstan to the markets of European countries. Union.
– The hydrogen energy development strategy is expected to be published in the next 2-3 months.
– The global green hydrogen market will be formed within the next 10 years. During this time, we, as a country, are obliged to provide an offer to the future market in the form of products. We can't wait, we need to act now. Foreign investors are turning. According to the report of the International Energy Agency (IEA) for 2019, hydrogen can be produced from fossil fuels and biomass, from water or from a mixture of both. Currently, natural gas accounts for almost 3/4 of the annual production of hydrogen, amounting to about 70 million tons. Hydrogen can be used in various fields – in industry, including oil refining, methanol and steel production, transport and construction.
