China has tripled its investment in solar energy since the start of the year, leading to record growth in new clean energy capacity.
“In the first four months of the year, China has tripled its investment in solar energy projects,” reports EurAsia Daily with reference to Bloomberg. “This enabled the country to set a record number of new clean energy production capacities”. According to the agency, from January to April, investments amounted to 29 billion yuan ($4.3 billion), up 204% from the same period a year earlier. In comparison, 51.3 billion yuan was invested in solar energy in the first 11 months of last year.
“China is rapidly ramping up investment in solar and wind projects. The country plans to build a large and flexible network to meet its carbon reduction targets by 2030 and zero by 2060. At the same time, coal will continue to play a central role in China's energy mix. Beijing has expanded plans to adapt power plants using this fuel as a reserve for renewable energy," – говорится в сообщении.
