Geologist's Day in Kazakhstan is celebrated on the first Sunday of April according to the Decree of the Head of state dated October 20, 2011. Although its history, as in a number of other post-Soviet countries, dates back to the times of the USSR.

This professional holiday of geologists and people of all professions related to the search and extraction of minerals was established by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on March 31, 1966 to commemorate the merits of Soviet geologists in creating the mineral resource base of the country.

Prospecting, exploration and mining is a very difficult task. The achievements of geological practice and science, many years of intense research, the discovery of new oil and gas fields – all this is the merit of geologists. Therefore, it is not surprising that in independent Kazakhstan they decided to revive the tradition of celebrating the holiday of people of this difficult profession.
