Производство водородного топлива ускорили с помощью звука

Исследователи из Мельбурнского королевского технологического института (RMIT) модернизировали технологию производства зеленого водорода в процессе электролиза воды. Новый подход с использованием звуковых волн увеличивает скорость, сокращает затраты и энергопотребление при производстве, сообщает научно-познавательный портал «Хайтек».

Материалы электродов, используемые в электролизе, страдают от накопления газообразного водорода и кислорода. Они образуют газовый слой, который снижает активность электродов и их производительность, объясняют ученые. В своей работе инженеры использовали высокочастотные вибрации, чтобы подавлять образование пузырьков на электродах и быстро удалять их.

Исследователи также отмечают, что при использовании акустического воздействия можно отказаться от дорогих электродных материалов, таких как платина или иридий, и заменить их на более дешевое серебро. Это существенно сокращает затраты на производство зеленого топлива, добавляют авторы работы.

В серии экспериментов инженеры показали, что использование новой технологии увеличивает электрическую мощность электролиза в 14 раз по сравнению с традиционным подходом. При этом затраты энергии на производство сокращаются на 27%.

Исследователи полагают, что новая технология создает возможность для производства дешевого и экологичного водородного топлива. Сейчас ученые работают над интеграцией своей акустической системы с существующими на рынке коммерческими приборами для электролиза.
